The piece is a set of six images inspired by the Jabberwocky, a nonsense poem in Lewis Carroll's Through the Looking Glass and what Alice Found There (1871) and also influenced by John Tenniel, the illustrator of that book. The six sections respond to the six verses of the poem (there are actually seven but the last verse is a repeat of the first). Reverse lettering is used to lierally 'reflect' the way Alice discovered the poem in a book, then held it to a mirror to read it.
